Gilles Caffier
As an artist Gilles Caffier is passionate yet discreet. He understands that an artist’s freedom is his greatest luxury. He translates this into his free moving silhouettes and patterns.
Gilles Caffier’s creations are humanistic. They are born from a unique marriage of hand-crafted creativity and technology, while interpreting the muses of the natural world. His lines are pure, sensual, and sometimes unexpected. He subverts the expected rules of materials, exploiting contrasts. Leather becomes metal, rough surfaces grow soft, and minimalism evolves into exuberance.
Each piece is handmade and is the result of meticulous work, mixing long established know-how with intense curiosity and exploration. Many of these are signed and numbered limited editions.
Gilles has had a remarkable history. After studying textile in fashion design in his native France, he started his career in the Parisian couture. Yves Saint Laurent and Paco Rabanne were among his clients. At 22 he relocated to Tokyo as an art director for an international fashion school. A few years later he opened his design studio.
In the mid-90’s, he shifted his focus to interior design and decoration. He also started producing his own work. Since then, he has created a lab of artisans in divergent fields who are continually working, evaluating, collaborating, and experimenting.
Currently Gilles creates and produces a collection of furniture, lighting, and accessories. Having lived abroad for his entire adult life has given him a unique international vision. He retains the luxury of remaining open to all aspects of design and visual expression through the decorative arts. Work from his collections has been acquired for residential and hospitality projects in over 25 countries by a who’s who of international architects, designers, and showrooms. His clientele share the same demands: creativity and authenticity.
Gilles Caffier has the unique combination of creative vision and production capability that enable the design and manifestation of work that reflect comfort, couture, and culture.
